Flatliners is set to be rereleased this September – but will it bring home the Bacon?
Well, in terms of Kevin Bacon, sadly not. However, the remake will feature a cameo from the 1990 version in the form of Kiefer Sutherland, which is arguably almost as good. As for the rest of the film, the new Flatlinerswill star Ellen Page, Diego Luna, Nina Dobrev, James Norton and Kiersey Clemons as medical students pushing the boundaries of life and death.
Obsessed with what lies on the other side, the group stop their hearts for a small amount of time before being jolted back to the land of the living. Once back, each member shares their discoveries to piece together what could happen when one dies – but it isn’t long until they want to know more. Stopping their hearts for longer periods and ultimately playing with forces they don’t understand, the trailer hints that it might not just be the students being pulled back from the afterlife.
The 90s film has established itself over the years as a cult classic, so this remake has some very large shoes to fill. From the special effects employed in the clips we’ve seen so far, a confirmed stellar cast, and a directing credit for the original The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo – Niels Arden Oplev can impress us all yet. I’m just still sad Kevin Bacon won’t be making his comeback.
